I was just riding home from a resturant and noticed my pedal felt a little weird. After riding a while longer, I pulled over as it just didn’t feel right.
I was shocked to see my pedal had unscrewed and in the process had shredded the housing on the crank arm.
I’m so angry. I just bought the crank set…
Does anyone know if I can d.i.y fix this or even if a shop can?
I went to a service station and bought an over priced spanner to re attach the pedal but this was before I realised it has shredded the inner housing.
GRRRRRRR!
My first parts arrived today via courier, whilst I was at work.
I arrived home expecting them and was very pleased to see them in real life.
Part 1- SHUN (White) crank with crank arms.
Part 2- Fixed gear/BMX chain (Black)
I will be installing them tomorrow afternoon and will take it for a maiden voyage as a converted fixed gear bike.
Wish me luck!
So, here it is…in all it’s glory! :)
To be honest, I think it’s quite a nice looking bike, although, I think with a bit of money spent and lots of elbow grease it will look much better.
What do you think?
I am eagerly awaiting my crank and chain so I can get the conversion complete and then I will be able to decide on an overall look for the fixed gear bike.
I just ordered my first lot of fixed gear bike parts to convert my geared bike over to fixed.
1. SHUN Track Fixie Crank Crankset 170mm 46T White
2. Fixie/Track BMX Bike YBN MK747 Kool Chain Black
As I live in the same area as the store, I am expecting them to arrive tomorrow via courier.
I am very excited for their arrival and to complete the conversion.
I am over the moon right now.
I have just been given an old bike, complete with everything in working order and a seperate pair of fixed gear wheels.
I will be taking photos tomorrow afternoon to show.
I have big plans for my new baby. First up is to buy the fixed gear cog/crank/chain and fit the wheels to complete to conversion into a fixed gear bike and then a big clean up- removing derailer, frame stickers, reflecters and drink bottle holder etc.
Stay tuned, lots to come.

hey i just saw your post about starting up a build and i think to save you money you should check out bikesdirect and just order a complete and paint it. It's so much better than the cheap "custom" bikes you get from places like state bike co or republic. just thought i would help you out a little! Hey, Thank you for letting me know about bikesdirect. I hadn’t heard about that website before. I live in Australia though and it seems they don’t ship internationally. They did have some nice bikes, that were reasonably priced. Buying a pre made bike will likely be cheaper and head ache free, however I really want to roll up my sleeves and give it a go myself. I have some work friends who have built bikes before and they’re willing to help me along the way. I will be posting pictures and a summary of each part of the build :) Wish me luck. Cheers! |
So, I think it’s about time I stop salivating over pictures, GIFs & videos of fixies and get my own build started!
What do you think?
As this will be my first build, I’m very excited and a tad nervous. I don’t know exactly where to start…
At the moment, I’m thinking along the lines of a Black/Red/Purple theme, Deep V wheels and a riser bar set up.
If anyone has any words of encouragement, tips and/or suggestions please send them my way :D
